Abstract
Interocclusal recording is the essential requirement for making prosthetic restorations. Six addition silicones (Blu-Mousse, Parkell, U.S.A., BM; Exabite£¿U, GC Corp., Japan, EX; Futar¨Þ D, Kentten Bach, U.S.A., FU; Perfect-F, Handae chemical, Korea, PF; Regisil¨Þ Rigid, Densply Caulk, Germany, RE; Silagum¨Þ, DMG, Germany, SI) and one polyether (Ramitec, 3M/ESPE, Germany, RA) interocclusal recording materials were used to compare the properties such as working time, minimum intraoral setting time, recovery from deformation(%), hardness, flexural strength, and linear dimensional change (%). Results are as follows; 1. For the comparison of working time, RE, FU, RA and BM satisfied the working time suggested by the manufacturer. However, EX, PF, and SI became setting before the suggested working time and failed to satisfy it. Also there was a significant differences among interocclusal recording materials (p<0.05). 2. For the comparison of minimum intraoral setting time, RE, RA, FU, and BM satisfied the setting times suggested by the manufacturer (p<0.05), and recovery from deformation (%) showed the percent distribution of 0.00 % to -0.16 %. Furthermore, there was a significant difference between BM and FU. 3. Higher shore type A hardness was shown in the following order: SI, FU and BM and according to Instron 3366£¿fs measurement (HD), FU, BM, SI, and PF scored above 20 HD (P<0.05). 4. Flexural strengths of all interocclusal recording materials showed that they could withstand pressure of 8.0 N, and it showed the inverse relationship between flexural strength and hardness. 5. Linear dimensional changes (%) of all interocclusal recording materials were showed under 1.5 %, and no significance was found among those materials. According to the results, in order to perform bite taking accurately interocclusal recording, it is foun necessary to setup a standard for appropriate properties. Furthermore, other properties of interocclusal recordings should be also considered.
